At Café O Claustro, the must-try dish is undoubtedly the tosta mista, a delectable Portuguese ham and cheese toastie that captures the essence of comfort food. According to Avant Lard Travel - by Houston Porter, both the classic and the chicken and bacon variations are delightfully scrumptious. The chicken—dubbed "pasta" by the locals—adds a rich and savory flavor to this classic snack, making it a delightful surprise for those unfamiliar with Portuguese culinary terminology. Cafe O Claustro was recommended to us for their tosta mistas and they did not disappoint! We tried both the regular and the chicken and bacon and both were delicious. (The chicken is actually chicken salad, which the Portuguese call "pasta", which is confusing for Americans (like us) but really means "paste", so is well named.). And low and behold, they actually use real American style bacon. The coffee was also very good and the young man helping us was quite nice. We will be back to try other tostas, for sure! UPDATE - JULY 2025 We returned to try more tostas and Guillerme was there again and as always, was friendly and helpful. We had the tosta mista again, because we've been trying them all over Tomar and want to confirm this one was still tops (and it is) but also wanted to try the bacon and Brie tost...and that one did not disappoint either. In fact, that one now ranks as my favorite breakfast sandwich anywhere in Tomar. It's phenomenal!
